The image card activity is one of the more powerful group activities that I enjoy facilitating with other leaders. If you aren’t familiar the game it’s fairly simple – the participants are invited to go to a large table and pick from a series of images that are spread out in front of them. They then pick the card that stands out the most, representing their current or aspirational feeling about the leader within them.
During that exercise, the images shared ranged from a man diving off of a dock into a fresh water lake to a country gravel road cutting through a series of trees leading to a bend in the road where you couldn’t see the end. The images themselves are powerful, but the stories they tell are even more poignant.
Today, I did something I rarely do, but because of the unique mix of participants who I worked with, I was invited to pick out my own card…
The image was of a supportive hand, with something fresh, different, and beautiful growing from it. My role for years has been to support leaders and organizations work through their personal and collective transformational change – hence the supportive hand. The image typically infers the new growth that can come from that change… which it did again. But what caught my attention this time was the thought that the new growth is the LeaderShip at the Helm community of practice and leadership series that has recently taken root, and the powerful impact that it has already had in the lives of the leaders who have participated, and the organizations they are a part of.
I’m excited about this new growth, and the privilege I have to be a part of something that has such a transformational impact for others. I would like to invite you to reach out as well and become part of the LeaderShip at the Helm Crew.
LeaderShip at the Helm has a series of events coming up you too can be a part of, and we travel the world to create custom solutions for our partners as well, contact me for more information.
