For those of us north of the Gulf, October is a time to pull in the sails and get ready for winter; it is also a time for reflection as we are surrounded by fall colors. I recently took a trip down to Charleston Harbor from Minnesota to run a Discover the Leader Within session with about a dozen local emerging and established leaders. Afterwards, a few of us took to sailing to apply a bit of what we learned about ourselves and working with others – and to simply enjoy a beautiful late summer sail.
Out on the Atlantic, I was reminded of the sailing trips I would take with my late older brother, Tom. An accomplished sailor himself, he taught me powerful lessons that sailing teaches us both about life and business while he set sail into the new, uncharted waters of small business. As a result of his experience of navigating through many different conditions and circumstances, he grew a very successful business, and he grew into an effective leader. Ergo, LeaderShip at the Helm was created, and all of my years of helping organizations maximize their human potential, so as to reach new levels of performance, were put into a simple to understand and use model.
This balanced approach to leading teams and organizations is now being developed into a LeaderShip Development series that can either be implemented internal to an organization, or to emerging and established leaders that can attend open enrollment sessions now starting in Minneapolis and looking to expand to other areas in the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast.
So much can be learned from working with other ‘crew’ members, especially when you share a common framework and knowledge. Connect with the LeaderShip at the Helm Crew today and learn about how you can become more balanced in your approach to organizational effectiveness!
